CPD EXPERIENCE: MY SUBMISSION

Every step in this programme has provided us with opportunities to explore and be more creative on the job as Information Scientists. Everyone of us that applied for this programme must of thought of many things. As the old local christian religion saying goes in my country, "we are united by our gathering, but diversified by our requests", we have a purpose to to successfully get admitted for the CPD programme, however the purposes are quite different.

Some wanted to learn new skills so that they will be able to perform better and meet the demands of their workplace. They are often overwhelmed and this has brought upon them feelings of being incompetent. Some research-driven individuals crave for more knowledge so that they will be able play excellently better as Information Scientists. Some others wanted to learn new things solely so that their workplaces could meet the demands of their clients. They want to learn new ways, technologies, methods of doing thing in their libraries. Very few, most probably none applied wondering if there are new things to learn in the field. Regardless of the purpose, everyone hoped to be admitted. The ordeals of securing a visa was demanding, the demands co-related with the peculiarities of each delegates' country. Securing the visa paved way for the wait for the d-day. Eventually, we had to leave behind many things dear to us. Wives, parents, child(ren). I think I can say categorically, I ... Right from the curtain raisers, the tone was set for the most popular topic of the programme- THE SOCIAL MEDIA IN LIBRARY. Right through all the sessions, there were some concepts that were gleaned in the lectures and messages, they were-CHOICE, CREATIVITY and INNOVATION.

One of the major lessons/habits I have learnt in this programme is the writing through the compulsory blogging assignment. I call it a writing/blogging culture learning because I have always known how to blog as my first blog was created in 2010 (see orikiwa.wordpress.com), the only article on it was published in 2010. If I can blog one in two days, it means I would have created fifteen articles in 30 days, compared to one in four years. However, blogging is a countinous thing which involve much discpline and creativity. Naturally, I do not do things for want of reason, I therefore thing my coleagues should learn to be creative in their blogging. I think it is a personal diary, considering the fact that it is an image maker shows it could be an avenue to show ones creativity, intelligence, prowess in ones area of strength. Hence, as academics, idea of aimless blogging is not an option.

At the end of the day, we have learnt to be creative; amidst the technologies that have explored we can choose. However the opportunities we have to be innovative depends on our workplaces and the size of our hearts.
